DIVINITY HELICOPTER.
Francis Tucker, the autodidactic innovator behind the DIVINITY HELICOPTER has designed Sierra Leone’s first locally built helicopter, using materials collected from scrapyards. This project demonstrates the power of local ingenuity, transforming discarded materials into a groundbreaking solution, that can serve vital purposes.
Sierra Leone and many parts of Africa face recurring challenges in responding effectively to emergencies, such as flooding, natural disasters and the urgent need for medical aid delivery. The lack of adequate emergency response infrastructure, including rescue aircrafts, often results in delayed assistance and the loss of lives. In times of disaster, remote and hard to reach communities are left isolated, with limited or no access to rapid evacuation, rescue, or critical health supplies. This shows the urgent need for innovative, accessible and locally adaptable emergency rescue solutions.
The helicopter is a symbol of Africa’s hidden talent and creativity. By leveraging available resources and local expertise, it highlights the continent’s ability to design context-specific technologies to address critical needs.
